Choose Self Compassion to Improve Even Faster
I'm currently reading "The Practice of Groundedness" by Brad Stulberg and wanted to share a concept I learned and am trying to apply.
Next time you are struggling try and choose self compassion over self judgment.
This sounds easy, but for me I've found it to be quite hard sometimes.
As someone who constantly strives to grow and improve, it can be hard to not be self judgmental when things don't go the way I anticipated.
But often being kind to yourself can give you the energy you need to effectively start moving forward and think clearly about your problem.
So, while I will always strive to grow, I'm hoping to be better at accepting challenges as they come and moving forward.
Some practical tips on how to do this are:
1. Adapot the mantra of, "This is what is happening right now. I'm doing the best I can." This helps defuse negative judgement and bring you back to the present.
2. Stop using the world should in regards to yourself. Instead of negatively saying, "I should be doing a better job at communicating in my job" instead say, "I want to get better at communicating and will start working on that."
3. Practice being more aware of the progress you have already made. It can be easy to forget where you started and how far you've already progressed.
I hope these tips help us all practice more self compassion and less self judgment.
